David Francis was born in 1958 in Victoria, Australia. He grew up on his family farm near Tooradin in Gippsland and competed successfully as a show-jumping and eventing rider throughout Australia. He attended university in Melbourne to study arts and law and in 1983 joined the law firm of Arthur Robinson & Hedderwicks. He left Australia to compete with horses in Europe and went on to ride on the United States showjumping circuit, based outside New York. In 1986, he moved to California to work with an American law firm and to compete with jumping horses in California and South America. From 1992 until 1999 he also sang with the oldest black gospel choir in Los Angeles.
In 1995, David began writing. Instead of lunch times leaving his office to school horses, he spent them writing long-hand in the Hollywood Cemetery. Agapanthus Tango is his first novel. The story is set near Maude in New South Wales and on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and also in Puebla in Mexico.
David Francis lives in Los Angeles where he is with the law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski. He spends time each year with his family in Australia and is currently working on a second novel.
