Pamela Stephenson

An Australian born in New Zealand, Pamela Stephenson is most famous for her starring role in Not the Nine O’Clock News as well as other tv and film work. She and Billy live and work in Los Angeles, where she now practises as a clinical psychologist.

Highly regarded in her current field, Pamela left the world of show-business far behind several years ago, well qualified to pursue her doctorate in psychology – about the psychological effects of fame – and this has come to great use in the acclaimed biography of her husband, the world’s most famous Glaswegian. Dividing her time between Los Angeles and Scotland, Pamela now has three children with her irrepressible comedian and actor husband, Billy Connolly. She puts her skills as psychologist to the test in telling this story of the world’s best loved comedian.

Pamela’s own career as comedienne came about after she left Australia to find success in the U.K as an actress. It was not long before her talent was recognised and in April 1979, viewers turned on their television sets to watch the first episode of the BBC series Not the Nine O’Clock News starring Pamela Stephenson alongside Rowan Atkinson, Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones. The political news spoof show had a slow start, but soon became a huge success. Pamela’s great sense of humour and her ability to be warm, funny as well as sexy on screen were a unique combination, making her one of the first comediennes to gain equal credit alongside men in a television show.
