David Walliams: 50 million sales, a gazillion readers!

HarperCollins Children’s Books are thrilled to announce that number one bestselling author David Walliams has achieved 50 million global sales across all his children’s books. David Walliams has become one of the best-loved and most successful children’s authors of the past decade, encouraging a love of reading especially among reluctant readers.

Since the publication of his groundbreaking first novel, The Boy in the Dress (2008), Walliams has seen unprecedented growth, with his books translated into 54 languages across 34 titles, including two charity releases: Blob (World Book Day 2017) and The Queen’s Orang-Utan (Comic Relief 2015). Collectively across his titles, David has celebrated 76 weeks (non-consecutive) at number one in the overall book charts and more than 200 weeks (non-consecutive) at number one in the children’s charts – an achievement no other children’s writer has reached. David’s latest release The World’s Worst Pets is currently in its eighth week at the top of the children’s charts.

To commemorate this monumental achievement, HarperCollins Children’s Books interviewed readers, teachers and parents to create the below trailer celebrating the enduring impact David Walliams’ stories hold, especially for reluctant readers.

David Walliams’ publishing has evolved into one of the biggest multimedia entertainment brands in the UK today, engaging and delighting children across a multitude of platforms.

HarperCollins Children’s Books Executive Publisher Cally Poplak said:
