Norris Church Mailer was born and raised in Atkins, Arkansas where she had a Freewill Baptist childhood and worked at the Atkins pickle plant. She graduated from Arkansas Tech University with teaching degrees in Art and English and went on to work as a Wilhelmina model in New York, as a painter with nine one-woman shows, as an actress at the Actors’ Studio and as a scriptwriter. She has been married to Norman Mailer since 1975.
