Paul Hyland

Paul Hyland was born in Dorset in 1947. An award-winning poet and writer, his books on English places, Purbeck and Wight, are modern classics. His African journey, The Black Heart, followed Joseph Conrad, Roger Casement and Dan Crawford up the River Congo, while in Indian Balm he explored a remote region of southern India adopted by his forebears. Backwards out of the Big World is a fresh and illuminating chronicle of his journey through Portugal, and Ralegh’s Last Journey, a gripping account of the last twenty weeks of Sir Walter’s life and his final travels, is an irresistably fascinating tale of treachery and double-bluff.
